Unsatisfied until we find our satisfaction in God alone

And I applied my heart to seek and to search out by wisdom all that is done under heaven. It is an unhappy business that God has given to the children of man to be busy with. I have seen everything that is done under the sun, and behold, all is vanity and a striving after wind. —Ecclesiastes 1:13-14 ESV

Since nothing is new under the sun, why should we be surprised to see a culture that follows this model? Our world is trying to find meaning and purpose, hope and joy, apart from God. [see today’s post on Jeremiah 1-2]

Without God, how can we define good and bad, right and wrong? Apart from God, what is our purpose? Ever since Adam and Eve in the garden, people have been trying to get wisdom without God. And that is pointless. Apart from God, life is meaningless. Trying to fill that vacuum with other things is vanity and a striving after the wind. It is an unhappy business. We are unsatisfied until we find our satisfaction in God alone.
