Swinging like a pendulum or trusting in God’s purpose?

Like a pendulum, when we think about our future, many of us tend to swing between two opposite and wrong ends.  Sometimes we worry over the future and what it holds…will we have a job? Will we have enough to eat? Will I get cancer?  We fret as if we do not remember that we have  Heavenly Father that has told us to seek Him first and the rest not to worry about.

The other extreme is what  Proverbs 27:1 is about:

Do not boast about tomorrow,
for you do not know what a day may bring.

Although we are to make plans and prepare, we are not to assume anything or boast about tomorrow.  Our days are in God’s hands.  He is sovereign over our plans and He is good.  His loving providence and purpose in our lives is to bring about our ultimate best.  We need to trust in God’s purpose and plan for us and rest rather than swinging like a pendulum.

We have every reason to trust in God’s goodness, grace, faithfulness, and mercies- they are new every morning! Lamentations 3:22-23 states, “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end;  they are new every morning;  great is your faithfulness.”
