Christ came to call us to repentance, and not to sanction our continuing in sin.

And Levi made him a great feast in his house, and there was a large company of tax collectors and others reclining at table with them.  And the Pharisees and their scribes grumbled at his disciples, saying, “Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?”  And Jesus answered them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick.  I have not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance.” Luke 5:30-32

J. C. Ryle comments:

He “came in to the world to save sinners,” and if we feel ourselves such, we have warrant for applying to, and trusting in Him to our life’s end. One thing only let us never forget–Christ came to call us to repentance, and not to sanction our continuing in sin.

  1. We can never do anything that would keep Him from loving us. I have to remind myself of this…often!
