In the reading from Psalm 1 today, we are told that there is blessing for those who delight in God’s Word. “Blessed is the man who..his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night.” This year as you read through the Bible each day, remember what a delight and pleasure it is to WALK with God, to STAND in His way and to SIT in His presence. When we do this we are described as a tree planted by streams of water, yielding fruit and prospering.
The opposite is described as wicked: standing and listening to sinners and scoffers, unable to stand in the judgment and like chaff that is blown away by the wind.
Sounds to me like nothing is more important than the time I spend delighting in God each day in His Word. It is easy some days to skip that time, and to fill my day with other pursuits. But I would rather be a solid tree with roots down deep in God’s Word than chaff blowing in the wind!
