Psalm 9:10 sates: “And those who know your name put their trust in you, for you, O Lord, have not forsaken those who seek you.”
What is it to KNOW the NAME of God?
NAMES in the ancient world carried far more significance than they do in our time. Names not only distinguished people from each other, they were thought to reveal a person’s character. When God gives a name to someone, it is a name that has meaning and gives us a glimpse of the nature of the person. This also applies to the names that God has given Himself. The one general name of God is split up into several special names, which express His multi-faceted being. These names are not of human invention, but are given by God Himself. Why has HE given us these names in the Bible? So that we might KNOW HIM and therefore TRUST HIM!
Look through Psalm 9 again, making special note of all the character traits of God that you see. Then truly “give thanks to the LORD with my whole heart!” (v 1) Then keep your eyes and heart open to all the names of God you see as you read through the Bible this year!
