In Psalm 6:4 David cries out to God to save him. Why? Save him for whose sake?
Look closely at the reason David gives for why God should save him.
- a. Is it because of his position, his job, his responsibilities?
- b. Is it because he is a humble man, a man after God’s own heart?
- c. Is it because he is righteous?
- d. None of the above.
Why does David ask God to save him?
None of the above…… verse 4 says, “Turn, O Lord, deliver my life; save me for the sake of your steadfast love.” David was praying that God’s reputation would be honored and lifted up by saving him. Indeed, this is a theme we see in many, many places in the Bible. In 1 Samuel 12:20, 22 the prophet Samuel gives his farewell address to the people of Israel and says, “For the Lord will not forsake his people, for his great name’s sake, because it has pleased the Lord to make you a people for himself.”
God, may You save me for YOUR sake…. and may You, Your name and Your love look great!
