As the Father has loved me, so have I loved You. Continue You in my love. If you keep My commandments, you shall abide in My love, even as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in His love.” —John 15:9-10
I know your works. You have the reputation of being alive, but you are dead. Wake up, and strengthen what remains and is about to die, for I have not found your works complete in the sight of my God. Remember, then, what you received and heard. Keep it, and repent. —Revelation 3:1-3
These two excerpts from today’s Bible readings in the Gospel of John and Revelation(also written by John) are expressing the same thing. Are you fake or real? Do you have a reputation of being one thing, but are really the opposite? Wake up! Repent. Get real.
True love doesn’t run out. If we love Jesus, we will not turn our back on Him and walk away sometime. What about the person who does walk away? They never were real.
Abide, remain,bear fruit or continue in My love…. in John 15, Jesus is saying, “Be real.”
- A true Christian abides;
- a true Christian bears fruit;
- a true Christian continues in love,
- and a true Christian obeys.
Jesus wants us to be real.
In Revelation 3, God is speaking to the church at Sardis, who had the reputation of being alive, but who were really dead. Unfortunately, there are many people who attend church, go through the motions, but are fakes. We are exhorted to, “Wake up…..Remember, then, what you received and heard. Keep it, and repent.”
Jesus wants people who really abide, really bear fruit, continue in His love and obey His commandments.
