Proverbs 30:8-9 …give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with the food that is needful for me, lest I be full and deny you and say, “Who is the Lord?” or lest I be poor and steal and profane the name of my God.
Three life-saving requests:
- Don’t give me poverty: I might steal, dishonor God, be distrustful of God, and when trying to hide or excuse my conduct, I will give God a bad name.
- Don’t give me riches: I might be so full of the world’s luxuries that I neglect feeding my soul. I may disregard God altogether, and try satisfying myself with counterfeit treasure. I may begin to think that it is owing to my own hard work and skill that I have riches.
- Feed me what I need: “Give me this day my daily bread”….my wants are different from my needs. If God’s providence can supply my needs, that is sufficient for me. See points 1 and 2 again, and again…..
