Jeremiah 10:12 ‘It is He who made the earth by His power, who established the world by His wisdom; and by His understanding He has stretched out the heavens.’
The creative character of God is under attack in our culture. Go to the average universities of this country. Even go to the average Christian college. Do they proclaim the doctrine that God created the heavens and the earth?
How about at high schools? There is big fuss over whether or not schools should even be allowed to teach creation. Schools have replaced God, and are even trying to dismantle the evidence that God has given for His own greatness and power. When you look at the night sky, you are not supposed to see the handiwork of God. You are supposed to see the results of chance! When you look at the [created] world all around you, you are not supposed to see the power of God displayed. You are supposed to see the natural outworking of some freak accidents. Recognize this for what it really is…attacking the very character of God.
Some do not want to believe there is an almighty God who has brought it all into existence, who controls it all by His power. So they replace Him. They deny Him. They suppress the knowledge of the truth. (Romans 1) Some of these are very “religious” people. But they do not believe the Bible or the evidence that God gives of Himself. Even at some Christian colleges, the science faculties are under increasing pressure to conform to “scientific” thought. So some Christians begin to cringe. They back up and say, “I am being unscientific, so maybe I should make an adjustment. Does it really matter if God created it?” It totally matters! The whole Bible collapses upon itself if God is not who He says He is, doing what He says He does. If Genesis 1:1 is not true, then maybe John 3:16 isn’t true either. There is a slippery slope of unbelief once we cave in on whether God really created the universe. We need to be more bold in standing for the testimony that God has given of Himself.
Just in case you need more convincing, look back to the beginning of Jeremiah 10:
There is none like you, O Lord;
you are great, and your name is great in might.
7 Who would not fear you, O King of the nations?
For this is your due;
for among all the wise ones of the nations
and in all their kingdoms
there is none like you.
8 They are both stupid and foolish;
the instruction of idols is but wood!
9 Beaten silver is brought from Tarshish,
and gold from Uphaz.
They are the work of the craftsman and of the hands of the goldsmith;
their clothing is violet and purple;
they are all the work of skilled men.
10 But the Lord is the true God;
he is the living God and the everlasting King.
and then skip down the page at Jeremiah 10:14-
Every man is stupid and without knowledge.
Ouch! That about says it all!
