“If it feels good, do it?”

As we finish our reading of Judges today (Chapters 20-21), we see a phrase repeated….  “right in their own eyes” …..   I am struck with the depravity of the people, as they just did whatever they considered to be “right in their own eyes.”

Moral, political, social, and spiritual chaos reigned.  There was no recognized king over Israel – and the people had forgotten about God as their King

What was left to be the standard?  Maybe “if it feels good, do it” – sounds like American culture.

The way of a fool is right in his own eyes,
but a wise man listens to advice. (Proverbs 12:15)

There is a way that seems right to a man,
but its end is the way to death. (Proverbs 14:12)

By contrast, what is the Biblical and wise way to approach all of our life’s decisions?

Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
and do not lean on your own understanding. (Proverbs 3:5)
