Ahaziah and Ahab. Both corrupt. Both under God’s ultimate rule.

2 Chronicles 22:7  “But it was ordained by God that the downfall of Ahaziah should come about through his going to visit Joram.”

Ahaziah decided to join  Joram, king of Israel, in order to try to  recapture Ramoth-gilead from Hazael, king of Syria.  He had advisors that encouraged him to do this.  A few years prior to this, Jehoshaphat had allied himself with Joram’s father, Ahab, in an identical mission.  (Remember reading in 2 Chromicles 18 this did not go well. Ahab was wounded in battle and died.)   Joram was wounded at Ramoth-gilead, and came back to Jezreel to recuperate. Ahaziah came to visit him there, only to fall into the hands of Jehu, Joram’s commander, whom God had chosen to destroy the house of Ahab (see 1 Kings 19:15–17). and 2 Kings 9:1–28.

Then we read that “it was ordained by God” (see 2 Chron. 10:15; 24:20). Ahaziah and Ahab.  Both corrupt.  Both under God’s ultimate rule.

Indeed, “The king’s heart is a stream of water in the hand of the Lord; he turns it wherever he will.” (Proverb 21:1)
