Job’s friends “comfort” him with condemnation instead of compassion

Let him not trust in emptiness, deceiving himself,
for emptiness will be his payment.
It will be paid in full before his time,
and his branch will not be green.
He will shake off his unripe grape like the vine,
and cast off his blossom like the olive tree.
For the company of the godless is barren,
and fire consumes the tents of bribery.
They conceive trouble and give birth to evil,
        and their womb prepares deceit.”
(Job 15:31-35 ESV)

Job has endured the loss of his children, and so much more.  Now we hear more from his “friends,” who “comfort” him with condemnation instead of compassion.  We have the “inside scoop” and know how God allowed Satan to take away from Job, presuming that Job would curse God.

This section should make us stop and think about our attitude towards others who are suffering. Do we come with an air of superiority and judgment? Or do we come with a spirit of humility, even when correction and rebuke is necessary?

  1. Job’s friends thought they were helping him. They didn’t know what they were doing because they did not know God the way Job did. They were blind. How can you be mad at a blind person for breaking a vase that they never saw in the first place? Job was just like Yeshua on the cross. He prayed for his friends and their lack of knowledge and blindness. “Forgive them Father for they do not know what they do.” BLIND! Job was restored with extra. The devil can be allowed to take everything from you if God allows….but God will always give back more to the FAITHFUL.
